Frequently Asked Questions
While Timberscope values every animal life, introduced species pose a significant threat to Australia’s unique wildlife. With a high percentage of exclusive mammal, reptile, frog, and bird species, Australia faces an extinction crisis. Timberscope is committed to preventing further animal extinctions and preserving biodiversity, recognising the urgent need to address this critical issue.
Timberscope specialises in the control of various introduced or feral animals that pose a threat to Australia’s native flora, fauna, and ecosystems. Our targeted pest management programs address a range of species, including but not limited to:
- Foxes: Known for preying on native wildlife and contributing to declines in vulnerable species.
- Feral Cats: Recognised as a major threat to biodiversity.
- Rabbits: Cause extensive damage to vegetation and compete with native animals for resources.
- Introduced Rodents: Species such as Black Rats can disrupt ecosystems and impact native species.
- Deer: Introduced in the 19th century for hunting and ornamental purposes, deer populations (Fallow, Red, Sambar and Rusa Deer) have grown significantly, causing a range of environmental and agricultural problems including damage to native vegetation, disrupting ecosystems, and contributing to the decline of endangered species.
- Other Feral Pests: Depending on specific regional challenges, Timberscope may also target other invasive animals such as feral goats and feral pigs that are causing harm to Australia’s natural habitats.
Addressing evasive feral animals can be challenging. These creatures operate on their terms, making scheduled shooting a complex task. Achieving successful outcomes in programs targeting elusive feral animals may require time and multiple visits. We prioritise transparency and realistic expectations, quoting accordingly to reflect the commitment needed. Depending on your situation, we might suggest exploring alternatives like baiting or trapping, which could offer a more effective solution.
Old-style steel jaw traps are illegal and considered cruel. Timberscope adheres to ethical practices and never uses inhumane traps that injure or maim animals. Soft jaw traps, permitted in Victoria and Australia for qualified operators, are designed to restrain animals without causing harm. We will also commence using a new system of live capture traps which has been engineered with meticulous attention to detail and designed to further minimise stress and discomfort for captured animals, aligning seamlessly with our ethical standards. All products used by Timberscope play a vital role in addressing environmental challenges associated with wildlife management, providing a solution that not only meets pest management needs but also ensures the welfare and dignity of pest animals.
Traps are strategically placed to minimise the risk of catching non-target species. In the rare event of a native animal being caught, Timberscope conducts daily trap checks. Our team is available 24/7 during trapping programs to ensure the swift release of any native wildlife, unharmed and back into the wild.
Given the differences among feral animals, Timberscope recommends implementing control measures at least once or twice a year. This frequency accounts for the potential recolonisation of areas by feral animals from surrounding regions, ensuring sustained and effective control measures.
Each job and client have unique requirements. For personalised information and quotes tailored to your specific needs, please contact Timberscope directly. We provide customised solutions to meet individual client expectations.
Feral animals are most active usually at night. Trap checks are conducted pre-dawn to minimise distress of the captured animal, ensuring animal welfare considerations are met. We are available 7 days per week and don’t adhere to fixed operating hours.
